I am thinking about buying a '89 JD856. I was told this is the same as the 855 except it has a front PTO for a belly mower. It doesn't have a needed front end loader, I don't know how hard it will be to add the 4way scv, any ideas?

I believe the 856 was initially designed for golf course work. I remember seeing one advertised with reel mowers mounted to the tractor. I believe the tractor was two wheel drive only but I could be mistaken. Otherwise, the tractor should be the same as an 855. ....

Thanks for the input. The 856 I'm looking at is a 4wd, owner asking $7800 but it comes with 4' boxblade & 4' bush hog. I've got to find out some detail on adding a loader, sizes, details on scv's, etc. Tractor looks clean but not sure of hours (tach shows 71, I know that's wrong), and the engine seems to have excessive vibration like it's got a mount missing. It needs a valve cover gasket too. I'm trying to do my homework & see if the pros outweigh the cons to make an offer on this one. ....
